He was born on July 29, 1955, in Canton, to John D. and Phyllis (Williams) Atherton. They preceded him in death.
John married Traci (Lujan) Atherton. She preceded him in death in 1994.
He later married Carolyn (Jennings) Atherton and she survives.
Also surviving are two children, Antoinina “Nina” Atherton of Havana, Christopher Atherton of Iowa, two sister, Tyrrell Whitman, and Catherine Atherton, four grandchildren, Traci, Taegan, of Lewistown, Cassie and Oliva of Havana, and several step grandchildren.
John lived and worked in Kansas in the oil fields before moving to Florida where he owned and operated a landscaping company. He enjoyed watching television especially wrestling, Nascar and football. Most of all John loved life no matter what struggles he or others were going through and he always would be the first to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
