John Kovachevich


Canton – John Kovachevich, 88, of Canton died at 3:55 a.m. on Wednesday, November 18, 2015, at Sunset Manor in Canton.
He was born October 25, 1927, in Matherville, to John and Josephine (Burich) Kovachevich.  They preceded him in death.
Surviving are his children Patty (Dave) Barnett of Canton, Barbara Hillyer, three grandchildren, Tim (Marissa) Baxter, Robert Hillyer, Ricky Lee Oldham, three great grandchildren Davin Baxter, Piper Baxter, Sawyer Baxter and one sister Bonnie Schroeder.
Also preceding him in death are three sisters, Violet Hale, Frances McMullen, Anne Benac and three brothers, Frank “Sug” Kovachevich, Victor Kovachevich and Leonard “Ching” Kovachevich.
John graduated from Canton High School in 1946 and later worked for Gales products in Galesburg.  He was a security guard for the Citizen Patrol in Arizona in 1958 and also drove an ambulance in Canton in the late 60’s.  He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Canton and he enjoyed dancing, singing, playing the organ, flowers and watching wrestling.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 pm, on Monday, November 23, 2015, at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton, where visitation will be held one hour prior to services.
Memorials may be made to the OSF Hospice.
Burial will be held at the Foster Cemetery.
