Lyle E. Ball

Lyle E. Ball, 82, of Canton, passed away peacefully March 2, 2024 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on November 5, 1941 to Lawrence and Helen Ball. He was part of a large family including four brothers; Charles, Kenny, Jerry and Donald, and four sisters; Charlotte, Vivian, Lillian and Eleanor. He married Deanna Brown on January 15, 1971 and they shared over 50 great years of marriage. She survives. He leaves behind three children; Darren (Marty) Ball, Melissa (Jeff) Crusen and Troy (Jamie) Ball. He also had six grandchildren; Darrek (Mona), Brenna (Trenton), Aunna, Brooke, Conner and Ashlyn, seven great-grandchildren; Raina, Dmitri, Ezra, Austin, Aspyn, Keanna and Apollo, four step grandchildren; Sarah (Jamie), Stephanie (Joey), Elizabeth (Dan) and Devin (Adam) and several step great-grandchildren.

Lyle served in the United States Army and fought in the Vietnam War. He worked at Hiram Walker as well as Maytag in Galesburg. He loved playing fast pitch softball, fishing and hunting but above all especially coon hunting with his family and close friends. He spent a lot of time with his brother-in-law David Brown. He was preceded in death by his four brothers, one sister and his parents. He was a man of few words but if you knew him you knew nothing was more important to him than his family. If there was a baby to hold, he was there. Services will be 12 pm noon, Saturday, March 9, 2024 at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home and Crematory in Canton, where visitation will be 2 hours prior to services. Burial will follow in Zion Cemetery in rural Fiatt. Memorials can be made to Fairview Fire and Rescue Squad or the Donor’s Choice.
