Eldon "Curly" Yetter

Eldon “Curly” Arthur Yetter, 94, of Havana passed away on Wednesday, December 13, 2023 at 1:50 p.m. at Mason District Hospital in Havana. He was born on August 21, 1929 in Havana to Leo and Mabel (Hurlburt) Yetter. He married Rosalyn Kleier in Topeka, Illinois on July 31, 1955 and she preceded him in death on December 7, 2010.


Curly is survived by his sons, Dr. Rodney (Mary) Yetter, Dr. Tad (Debbie) Yetter, and Aaron (Michelle) Yetter, all of Havana; grandchildren, Kaleb, Joshua, Jacob, Kady, Haley, and Eden; step-grandchildren, Emilie and Madison; and step-great granddaughter, Hallie. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, step-father, Dr. F. J. Cory and sister, Eleanor Wendt.

Curly was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps 1st Division during the Korean War. After returning home, Curly owned and operated Yetter Insurance Agency and also farmed. He was a member of American Legion Post #138, VFW Post #6408, Irrigated Growers Association, and Mason County Farm Bureau. Curly had a tremendous sense of family and community history and liked to impart his knowledge of local folklore upon his children, giving them a strong sense of attachment to this community. He was an avid outdoorsman and duck hunter, and was known for his infectious laugh.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 20, 2023 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Hurley Funeral Home in Havana. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 21, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Havana, with Rev. Ian Heinze officiating. Burial will follow the service at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Havana. VFW Post #6408 and American Legion Post #138 will provide military detail.

Memorial donations may be made in Curly’s name to VFW Post #6408, American Legion Post #138, or St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. Online condolences can be left for his family at www.hurleyfh.com.
