Cynthia ‘Cindy’ C. Hoff

Cynthia ‘Cindy’ Charlene Hoff, 65, of Havana, formerly of Springfield, passed away on November 29th, 2023 after her long and vigorous fight against breast cancer. She was born July 3rd, 1958 to Chris ‘Bud’ and Alice (Huber) Johnson. She graduated from Nokomis High School in 1976 and moved to Springfield shortly after. A roommate introduced her to the drummer of a local band who would later become her husband of 28 years. They would both go on to become a part of ‘Blue Harvest’, Charlie on drums and Cindy on vocals. They married in 1978 and shared 3 children together. After the birth of her children, she worked as a secretarial temp and ran a small daycare out of the home, but would eventually join Springfield School District #186 where she worked as a special education aide, retiring in 2018 after 23 years.

There was nothing Cindy loved more than her family. In addition to devoting herself to her kids, she was promoted to MeMaw in 2019 with the birth of her first grandchild. She was a woman of strong faith and would always encourage you to ‘laugh through the hard times’. She enjoyed watching old westerns and Game Show Network, a good Seinfeld reference, or an ice cold McDonald’s Diet Coke.

Cindy is survived by her 3 children, Erin Hoff of Springfield, Lisa (Andrew) Friedrich of Havana, and Andy (Meg) Hoff of Springfield; Granddaughter Riley Friedrich of Havana; ex-husband Charles (Joleen) Hoff of Springfield; Mother Alice Johnson of Chatham; Sisters Marsha (Mike) Matzke and Christine (Kevin) Roland both of Springfield; as well as many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. She was preceded in death by her father.

It was a long-standing holiday travel tradition to “give 3 rings” on the telephone - letting her parents know everyone arrived home safely. This year, she has arrived at her eternal home, resting safely in the arms of Jesus.

The family would especially like to thank Dr Hussain and the staffs of Simmons Cancer Institute, Mason District Hospital, Traditions Hospice, and Havana Health Care for their exceptional care of Cindy in her last few months.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 9th from 10:00am-12:00pm at Trinity Lutheran Church in Springfield. A private family burial will take place at a later date.

Hurley Funeral Home in Havana is in charge of arrangements.
