Raymond L. Morell


Raymond L. Morelli, 93, of Delaware, OH, passed away at 10:17 a.m., on Friday, April 23, 2021, at Delaware Nursing Home in Delaware, OH.

He was born March 19, 1928, to Severino and Flossie (Maurice) Morelli in Norris, IL. He married Patsy (Bundy) Morelli in February 1972. She has preceded him in death.

Raymond is survived by one step-daughter, Sheryl Ayers, two step grandchildren; numerous step great-grandchildren; one niece, Melodee (Phil) Mears; two nephews, Dennis (Mary Beth) Morelli and Larry (Becky) Simpson; one cousin, William "Buck" (Francie) Maurice; many great nieces and nephews; great-great-nieces and nephews; and many friends from his church.

Raymond is also preceded in death by his parents; and one very close brother, Sam (Inez) Morelli.

Raymond was an exceptional all-star football player at Illinois State University for four years, where he was later inducted into Redbirds Hall of Fame in 1991. He received his Master's Degree in Education. After graduation, he played for the Detroit Lions for a few months before being drafted in the Army where he was stationed in Okinawa at the end of WW II. He was in education for 38 years, including being a Superintendent for the last 25 years. Raymond was a member of Calvary Temple in Springfield, IL, where he and his wife were very active in the church.

A graveside service will be held at 11 am on May 1, 2021 at White Chapel Memory Gardens in Canton.

Memorials may be made either to Grace Community School in Delaware, Ohio or Calvary Temple in Springfield, IL.
