Janet Jean Purtle


Janet Jean Purtle, 71, of Canton, passed away at 3:52 PM on Sunday, April 11, 2021 at Graham Hospital in Canton surrounded by her loved ones. She was born on May 12, 1949 in Canton to George and Francis Marion (Johnson) Bugos. Janet first married Jack L. Russell on September 25, 1965. They had three daughters. Janet was later married to Terry L. Purtle on June 1, 1973 in St. David. They had one son. Janet and Terry were happily married for 49 years.  He survives.

Janet is survived by four children; Tammy Russell (Floyd Price), Brenda Kay Russell (Gary Rosich), Kelly Jo (Bradley E. Smith) Russell, and Terry Lee Purtle Jr, 10 grandchildren; Melissa Mae Porter (Joe Buskirk), Tommy Lee Kruzan (Jackie Hammond), Joshaua Allen Russell, Ryan Lee Russell (Cassie Jump), Kaylee Lynn Beyers (Tyler Snowden), Jammie Nicole Bishop, Jessica Dawn Reedy, Jerrica Lynne Bowton (Patrick Bickel), River and Riot Purtle, 13 great grandchildren, several great nieces and nephews, and many more to name who called her Grandma.

She is preceded in death by her parents, and two wonderful sisters, Judy (the late Bill) Loveland and Sandra Pasley.

She worked at the nursing center, home health, and was a dishwasher at Wee-Ma-Tuk Club House. She spent her best years with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved shopping. She made the best fried chicken. Janet always spoke her mind and cussed like a sailor. You could always find her writing in her journals, but would never let you read any of them. She loved to go out and about with Grandpa. She was the best at doing the laundry and dishes. She loved her beloved dogs; surviving are Pebbles and Bam Bam. Benji and Emily Sue preceded Janet in death.

Service will be held at 11: 00 AM on Saturday, April 17, 2021 at Sedgwick Funeral Homes & Crematory in Canton, IL. Rev. Monroe Bailey will officiate. A visitation will be held from 5-7 PM on Friday, April 16, 2021 at Sedgwick Funeral Homes & Crematory in Canton, IL. Cremation rites will be accorded following the service.
