Vicki Suzette Gardner


Vicki Suzette Gardner, 63, of Springfield, passed away at 9:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 24, 2018.

Vicki was born November 22, 1954 in Canton, the daughter of Richard Donovan and Muriel Jean Jackson Stremmel.

Vicki was a 1972 graduate of Canton High School and she attended Spoon River Community College. Vicki worked in landscaping and was an artist. She collected roosters and loved animals and dragons. Vicki loved to be outdoors. She also enjoyed antiquing, painting and sculpting.

Vicki was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Sheldon and Ruby Stremmel; maternal grandparents, Lloyd and Mildred Jackson; sister, Vickie Foster; niece, Amber Foster; and friend, Al McKamey.

She is survived by her son, Jesse Abraham Gardner Owens of Springfield, who was the light of her life; father, Richard (Billie) Stremmel of Canton; mother, Muriel Lafferty of Broomfield, CO; stepfather, Daniel (Rose) Lafferty of Vancouver, WA; stepmother, Phyllis Wolff of Canton; companion, Greg Greeley of Springfield; four sisters, Debbie (George) Coutré of Colchester, Laureen (Scott) Schaffer of Steamboat Springs, CO, Angela (Brian) Wieburg of Star, ID, and Rebecca (Scott) McNeil of Normal; four brothers, Daniel (Shari) Lafferty of Ft. Collins, CO, David (Jennifer) Stremmel of Canton, Dr. Timothy (Angela) Stremmel of Anniston, AL, and Stephen (Christian) Stremmel of Canton; stepdaughter, Deonna Gardner of Three Rivers, CA; many nieces and nephews; friend, Catherine McKamey of Springfield; and two dogs, Josie and Magnus.

Visitation and Funeral Ceremony: Family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:15 a.m. on Friday, March 30, 2018 with a ceremony following at 11:30 a.m. at Boardman-Smith Funeral Home, 800 South Grand Ave. West, Springfield, with Rev. Ronald Pettigrew officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.

Memorial contributions may be made on the day of the ceremony for Jesse Gardner Owens’ ongoing college expenses.
