Dr. William L. Carper


Canton – Dr. William L. Carper, 86, of Canton, passed away at 5:36 AM on Sunday, March 11, 2018 at Graham Hospital. He was born on October 7, 1931 in Canton, IL to Leonard N. and Olive (Rainey) Carper. He married the love of his life, Eleanor L. Webb on July 17, 1954 in Bushnell, IL, she survives.

Also surviving are four children, Elise (Geruza Paiva) Carper of Austin, TX, Joe (Anne) Carper of Decatur, AL, Kate (Robert) Lutzenhiser of Stevensville, MT, and Amy (Ron) Haughawout of Knoxville, IL; and five grandchildren, Sarah, Sam, Jude, Eric, and John.

William graduated from Canton High School in 1949. He attended Augustana College and later graduated from University of Illinois School of Medicine in 1956. William worked as a Doctor at the Coleman Clinic and Graham Hospital in Canton, IL from 1959 to 1992, and then moved to work for OSF Family Community Clinic in Peoria, IL until 1998. He participated in three medical mission trips to Haiti and Honduras. He was a member, Sunday school teacher, and counselor at Wesley United Methodist Church in Canton, IL and was also a member of the Masonic Lodge #734 and Life Boy Scouts.

William served in the Army Medical Corps from 1957-1959.

A celebration of life will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, March 15, 2018 at Wesley United Methodist Church in Canton, IL. Rev. K. Bruce Rushing will officiate. A visitation will be held from 5-7 PM on Wednesday, March 14, 2018 at Sedgwick Funeral Homes & Crematory in Canton, IL. Cremation rites will be accorded with Sedgwick Funeral Homes & Crematory.
