Doris L. Murphy


Cuba- Doris L. Murphy, 96, of Cuba passed away at 5:35 AM Friday March 24, 2017 at Heartland Health Care in Canton.

She was born September 26, 1920 at Steubenville, OH; the daughter of Clarence and Anna Mae (Reid) Bell. At the age of three she and her parents moved to Cuba. She married James “Jimmie” Murphy April 21, 1939 at Burlington, IA. He preceded her in death September 3, 1989. She was also preceded in death by her parents, and one sister Betty (Don) Weller. Survivors include one son, Robert (Carol Jane) Murphy, one daughter, Carol Girard both of Cuba, four grandchildren, Alan (Sandy) Murphy, Veanna (Aaron) Thum, Leigh Anne (Rick) Rosich, Jamie Girard and eight great grandchildren.

She was a member of the Cuba United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women’s Society, Fulton County Women’s Home extension, the Neighborhood Club, a founder of the SLT Canasta Club which is still in existence and a leader of the Big 10. She was a 4-H club leader for 30 years.

Doris and her husband farmed all of their life together. After retirement she and Jimmie enjoyed camping with their Shasta Club the Roadrunners. Spending time with family was her favorite thing to do.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Tuesday at the Cuba United Methodist Church with Pastor Russell Rhoades officiating. Burial will be in Cuba Cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday from 5-7 PM at the Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Cuba. Memorial contributions may be made to Cuba United Methodist Church or Harbor Lights Hospice.
