Canton – Rose J. Centers, 94, of Canton, passed away at 2:41 PM on Wednesday, October 18, 2017 at Red Oak Estates in Canton, IL. She was born on April 21, 1923 in Fiatt, IL to John and Maria (Forneris) Vigna. She married Charles Greg Centers in September of 1948. He preceded her in death in September of 1993.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, one brother Anthony Vigna, and two sisters, Mary Flynn and Antionette McCann.
Surviving is one sister, Dorothy Francis of Canton and four nephews.
Rose graduated from Cuba High School and furthered her education at Western Illinois University where she received her bachelors in teaching. Rose retired after 40 years as a teacher in one room country schools in the Fiatt, Fairview, and Ellisville areas completing her teaching career in the Canton School District at Lincoln School. She was a member of the Fiatt Christian Church in Fiatt, IL, and also a 50-year member of the Order of Eastern Star in Fairview, IL.
Private burial of ashes will be at a later date at Fiatt Cemetery in Fiatt, IL. Cremation rites will be accorded with Sedgwick Funeral Homes & Crematory in Canton, IL. Memorials can be made to Shriners Children’s Hospital. To make online condolences you may go to www.sedgwickfuneralhomes.com
