Ghlee F. Herrick


Smithfield- Ghlee F. Herrick, 96, of Smithfield, passed away at 5:05 PM Thursday October 12, 2017 at Heartland Health Care in Canton.

He was born September 30, 1921 at Smithfield, the son of Rueben and Catherine (Orwig) Herrick. He married Ruth Hallman and they had two children, Robert and Ruth Ann. He later married Gladys Morse on September 30, 1946. He later married Beatrice Seymore, and she preceded him in death on May 30, 1996. Survivors include seven children, David (Debbie) Herrick of Smithfield, Linda Payne of Salina, KS; Gale (Betty) Herrick of Cuba, Wanda (Marc) Boyer of Smithfield, Richard (Karen) Herrick of Winfield, IA; Marsha Herrick of Bushnell, and JR Herrick of Donnellson, IA; 21 grandchildren with one on the way, 25 great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, two children, Cheryl Lynn Herrick and Dennis Herrick, and eight siblings.

Ghlee worked as a farmer, a janitor at several school districts, and had been a machinist at a factory in Ipava. He was a WW 2 Navy veteran and a member of the Cuba American Legion. He was a member of Brock United Methodist Church in Smithfield. He had served as Cass Twp. Road Commissioner for 6 ½ years, and was an avid gardener.

Services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday at Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Cuba, with Pastor Ellen Dodd officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services. Burial will be in Baughman Cemetery with military rites accorded by Cuba American Legion. Memorial contributions may be made to Smithfield Fire Protection District or Brock United Methodist Church.
