Helene P. Carrara


Helene Patricia Carrara was born in Chicago, IL on October 15, 1930. Her Parents Elizabeth (Bruggeman) and Herman Quinn resided in Joliet, IL. She was their only child. The family later moved to Banner, IL. It was there in 1947 she met her husband, Louis Carrara a navy WWII Veteran and on January 17, 1948 they married.
They have four children, Rebecca Canty (Ray) of Springfield, IL, Constance Ziegler (Jim) of Loveland, OH, Jennifer Talbot (Steve) of Oceanside, CA, Louis Jr. of Maineville, OH. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one granddaughter, Jaclyn Doyle.
They have eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Helene and her husband opened and operated a restaurant in Canton, IL in 1960 and in 1975 moved to Santa Barbara, CA where they later opened a cheese shop and deli called “Say Cheese” in historical downtown Santa Barbara. Helene later opened a shoe store next to their deli called “Shoe Biz” featuring BASS shoes. Helene was an active member for 28 years with the Santa Barbara’s Women’s Club and served on many committees. She also was an active member of the La Cumbra Chapter, American Business Women’s Association and in 1987 was elected president.
Helene’s Hobby was collecting antiques and many had been put on display in their deli and shoe store.
In 2005, they retired and moved to Maineville, OH
A visitation will be held on Friday February 24, 2017 from 11-Noon at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton, A Graveside service will follow at 12 Noon at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Canton.
