Mildred I. Russell


Canton– Mildred Irene Russell of Easley, S.C., formerly of Canton, passed away Wednesday January 11, 2017 at Foot Hills First Presbyterian Community in Easley, South Carolina.
She was born to Henry Oscar and Christina M. (Hughes) Meyer on November 12, 1926. She married Frederick Sanford Russell on June 10, 1950 in Elk Mound, WI.  Fred preceded her in death in 2001.
She is survived by five children, Carolyn Russell of Minnesota, Charles Russell of Kewanee, IL Marilyn North of Georgia, Cindy Russell of South Carolina, and Melinda (Greg) Smith of South Carolina, sisters, Doris Jean Amberson, and Emily Moy. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, Randall and Becky Russell, Joe and Chad North, Danielle, Andrew (Ashley), Nicole, and Sydney Smith and great-grandchildren James and Ella.
Mildred retired from Canton School District #66 where she was a grade school teacher for 27 years. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Canton and was active in the Mound Moore Community Club and 4-H Club.  Mildred was an avid gardener and loved sharing her wonderful cooking talents with family and friends.  Her creative mind was evident in everything she did, from family Christmas cards to challenging the imaginations of the children in her classroom.  She was a generous giver to others and her unique and witty sense of humor brought much laughter to those around her.  She was also the expert at making leftovers out of leftovers.
A visitation will be held on Monday, January 16, 2017 from 5-7 at the Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton with a funeral service on Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at 10 am at the funeral home.
Burial will be at the White Chapel Memory Gardens in Canton.
