Clark Dewitt Wilson Jr.


Canton – Clark Dewitt Wilson Jr., 69, of Canton, passed away at 9:51 PM on Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at home, surrounded by his family. He was born on December 11, 1947 in St. Louis, MO to Clark D. and Lorraine (Gilder) Wilson Sr. He married Linda S. (Kovachevich) on September 8, 1978 in Peoria.

Surviving is his wife of 38 years; four children, Stacy (Corey) Wise, Melissa (Shaun) Miller, Dash (LaKendra) Wilson, and Drake (Carrie) Wilson; ten grandchildren; one sister, Julia (George Delbert) Belcher of Scotts, MI; mother-in-law, Vada L. Kovachevich of Canton, IL; brother-in-law, Victor A. (Dixie) Kovachevich Jr. of Normal, IL; and numerous nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and father-in-law, Victor A. Kovachevich Sr.

He was raised in Peoria, IL and graduated from Manual High School in 1966. He was drafted in the Army in 1967, where he served in Vietnam as a Combat Medic with the 25th Infantry Division, and was a recipient of the Bronze Star Medal. Clark worked as a laborer throughout Illinois before he was hired by the City of Canton and held several positions; he retired as a Zoning Ordinance Officer after 19 years in 2007.

Clark was a member of Moose Lodge #1571 and Hiram Walker Rod & Gun Club. He was also an avid Cardinal’s fan.

Per Clarks request there will be graveside Military Services at 2 PM on Friday, January, 27, 2017 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Canton. Following will be a Celebration of Life at 3 PM at the Canton VFW, 1200 South 5th Avenue, Canton, IL. Memorials can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
