Mary R. “Rose” Cumpston

 
CANTON- Mary R. “Rose” Cumpston 78 of Canton passed away at 11:33 AM on Friday, January 6, 2017 at her Residence. She was born on March 22, 1938 in Canton, a daughter of Harold and Nettie Mae (Games) O’Brien. She married William F. Cumpston on December 29, 1962 in Rushville, Illinois. He preceded her in death on November 17, 2000.
Also preceding her in death is her parents, one son, William J. “Billy” Stickle, and her step-father, Newton Simpson, whom raised her.
Surviving are two sons, O.Keith Lillie of Portland, Oregon; William L. “Lee” Cumpston of Canton; one daughter, Connie (Steve) Smith of Lewistown; one brother, Larry (Becky) Simpson of Canton, and one sister, Stella Menne of Pekin; several grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews, and her beloved dog, Missie.
Mary was the head cook for the Arrowhead Café in which her mother owned and operated for 30 plus years, and was a member of the Women of the Moose in Canton.
Per Mary’s wishes there will be no services, cremation rites will be accorded through Sedgwick Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1995 North Main Street, Canton. Burial of ashes will be in Waterford Cemetery at a later date. Memorials can be made to the American Cancer Society or to the American Lung Association.
