Marcella V. Lindley


Farmington – Marcella V. Lindley, 94, of Farmington, passed away at 2:54 AM on Friday, January 13, 2017 at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria, IL. She was born on February 4, 1922 in Wyoming, IL, a daughter of Ralph and Minnie (Larson) Cox. She married Robert Lindley on September 20, 1947, in Peoria, IL. He preceded her in death July 8, 2016.

She was also preceded in death by one son, Phil; one grand-daughter, one great-grandson, and one sister, Dorothy Bailey.

Surviving are two sons, David (Pam) Lindley  of Chandler, AZ, and Paul (Sherri) Lindley of Hanna City; four daughters, Marsha (Kevin) Hughes of The Colony, TX, Claudia (Tim) Threw of Yates City, Cindy (Mike) Abel of Farmington, and Teresa (Greg) Daggett of Liberty; one daughter-in-law, Sue Lindley of Shelton, CT; 11 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren.

Marcella’s greatest joy was raising her seven children.  She was a devoted wife and mother always putting her family’s needs first.  Marcella welcomed the neighborhood kids into her home, and it became a favorite gathering place. She also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Marcella will always be remembered for her wink and smile that lit up every room.

Marcella attended Brown’s School of Business and was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Business Sorority.  She worked as a key punch operator at Keystone until shortly after her marriage to Bob.  After her children were in school, Marcella worked as a cafeteria cashier at Farmington High School and retired in 1988. Marcella was a member of St. Matthew’s Catholic Church, and also a member of St. Matthew’s Altar and Rosary Society and Noodle Makers. She was the secretary for the Tri-County Senior Center and a member of the DAR.

Services will be at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, January 17 2017 at St. Matthews Catholic Church in Farmington, IL, where a visitation will be from 10-10:30 AM. Father Paul Stiene will officiate. Burial will be at 2 PM on Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at Resurrection Cemetery in Peoria, IL.

Recitation of the Rosary will be at 4:30 PM and a visitation will be held from 5-7 PM on Monday, January 16, 2017 at Anderson-Sedgwick Funeral Home in Farmington, IL. Memorials can be made to Farmington Rescue Squad 1100, St. Matthew’s Catholic Church, or Tri County Senior Center.
