Shirley was born June 13, 1941, in Elmwood, IL, to George and Alice (Frank) Slane.
Shirley married the love of her life, Ronald Sollenberger, on August 20, 1961, at Brimfield Union Church. He preceded her in death on January 30, 2018.
Shirley is survived by three children, Eric (Laura) Sollenberger of Brimfield, Kurtis Sollenberger of Brimfield, and Rena (Jim) Hill of Brimfield; one sister, Linda Pillman; and ten grandchildren, Jessi, Dylan, Jacob, Ethan, Mason, Jada, David, Isaiah, Caelan, and Mya. Shirley’s grandkids were the light of her life. She could always be found attending a grandchild’s event.
Shirley is also preceded in death by her parents; three children, Todd Sollenberger, Lyle Sollenberger, and Chad Sollenberger; three brothers, Lyle Slane, George Slane, and Dwayne Slane; and one sister, Pauline Meyer.
Shirley was a teacher at Brimfield School District #309 for over 40 years, positively impacting many young lives. She was a board member at the Brimfield Library and involved in multiple book clubs. She also served as a voting official during elections. Shirley was a very active leader and member at Brimfield Union Church where she was a trustee, choir member, women’s group member, and enjoyed cooking for the pancake and sausage breakfasts and senior luncheons.
A funeral service will be held at noon on Saturday, February 8, 2025, at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Elmwood. A visitation will be held prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. to noon at the funeral home.
