Paula Colleen DeWees

Paula Colleen DeWees, 77, of Astoria, passed away at 4:35 p.m. on Monday, February 10, 2025 at Graham Hospital in Canton. She was born on August 12, 1947 in Canton to George and Helen (Bunch) Tarvin. She married George DeWees on December 9, 1967 and they later divorced.

Paula is survived by her sons, Andrew DeWees and Joshua (Melinda) DeWees; grandchildren, Darian (Dylan) Hull, Mikayla Howarter, and Elena DeWees; great-grandchildren, Lorelei, Peter, and Fitzgerald Hull; brother, Ted Tarvin; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Larry Tarvin; and sister, Carol Palmer.
Paula was a member of Isabel Community Church. She taught school in Havana and Astoria, and retired from teaching in 2011. She loved her students and helping children. She was also a huge Elvis fan.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 15, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at Hurley Funeral Home in Havana, with a visitation one hour prior to the service from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. Rev. Shalom Renner will officiate. Burial will follow the service at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Havana.
