Robert was born July 20, 1934 in Cuba the son of Cecil H. and Faith (Putman) Clayberg. He is survived by his wife Darlene of Macomb, three children, Jeff Clayberg of Macomb, Patrick (Brian Suver) of Chicago, and Denise Clayberg of Macomb, two grandchildren, Jarod (Shanelle) Clayberg of Wisconsin, and Rachel (Todd) Sheets of Mahomet, IL. Six great grandchildren, Aria, Aubrey, and Easton Sheets of Mahomet, and Jurnee, Emerie, and Lynley Clayberg of Wisconsin. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Lt. James G. Clayberg USAF-MIA Korean War, and one sister Joan (Clayberg) Clark, brother-in-law, Robert Clark, and nephew James Clark.
Robert served in the US Army in Germany after graduating from Cuba High School in 1952. He married Mary Darlene Cook on September 16, 1956, and upon his return to the states, Robert worked at Cuba Mine #9 then Freeman United Coal Co-Buckheart Mine in rural Canton from which he retired in 1989. He was a member of the Cuba Christian Church, the Canton Moose Lodge, the Canton Elks, and the Cuba Lions Club. Robert was an avid Cubs fan, enjoyed playing cards, fishing and camping with his wife, Darlene. He delighted in attending both his grandchildren’s and great grandchildren’s sporting contests, dance recitals and special events. He was known for always having a piece of cake for his friends at Wesley Village.
Cremation will be accorded. A private graveside service for family will be held at a later date at the Cuba Cemetery with Pastor Mike Arnett officiating. A military service will follow with the US Army, and the Cuba American Legion. Online condolences may be made at henrylange.com
