Cuba- Robert E. “Bob” Thomson, 78, of Cuba passed away Sunday February 12, 2023 at Clayberg Nursing Home in Cuba.
He was born April 12, 1944 in Cuba the son of Paul and Mignon (Elie) Thomson. He married Nancy Stambaugh on August 19, 1979 in Cuba. She survives along with three children, Daniel (Marshell) Thomson of Bloomington, Jamey (Apryl Ratliff) Ford of Cuba, and Stacey (Chris) Warren of Bloomington, five grandchildren, one sister, Darlene (Dean) Bennett of LaHarpe, and Leroy (Vicki) Thomson of Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents, and three brothers.
Bob worked at Admiral’s in Galesburg. He was also a rural mail carrier for over 25 years. He served 8 years as the Cass Twp. Road commissioner and entertained many friends, family and community members with his charismatic personality and musical talents as a one-man band. He served his country as an Air Force Staff Sergeant.
He was a member of the Cuba Masonic Lodge where he served as Past Master, the Cuba American Legion Russell Smith Post 533 where he was a chaplain, the Fulton County Farm Bureau, and Finn & Feather in Fairview. He was also a volunteer driver for Impact Life.
Bob’s hobbies included farming, hunting, fishing, searching for mushrooms and having breakfast with his friends. Over the years, he enjoyed traveling with his wife Nancy, line dancing, four-wheeling and spending time with his kids and grandkids.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday February 16th at Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Cuba with Pastor Mike Arnett officiating. Burial will be in Cuba Cemetery where a military service will be conducted by the US Air Force and the Cuba American Legion. Visitation will be held from 5-7 PM Wednesday at the memorial home. Memorial contributions may be made to Cuba Food Pantry, Cuba American Legion, Cass-Putman Rescue Squad, or Donor’s Choice.
