Patricia M. Evans

CUBA – With tremendous sadness, the family of Patricia M. Evans (Patt or Mom) announce her death at the age of 92. She died at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, September 10, 2022, at the Parkview Regional Hospital in Fort Wayne, Indiana surrounded by family and friends that cherished, loved and respected her. Patricia Margaret Evans departed from this world and escaped from the disease that took her memory and her health. She joined those that went before her in death: Marion Mark Evans (husband – married 62 years), Dewayne Walter Smith (Father), A. Maude Smith (Mother), and Russell Carmichael (Grandson).

Patricia was born Sunday, May 18, 1930 at Graham Hospital in Canton, Illinois to Dewayne W. Smith (Walter or Shag) and A. Maude King (Maude). She is survived by her younger sister, Sandra Palmer (husband, Leon); three (3) adult children: Pamela Evans-Crump, Sherry Evans-Carmichael (husband, Jeff) and Kevin Evans (wife, Karen); four (4) adult Grandchildren: Eric Crump, Emily (Evans) Pantel (husband, Jannis), Jonathan Evans (wife, Cassandra), and Tia Carmichael; (6) Great-grandchildren: Lina Pantel, Jamie Pantel, Samuel Pantel, Elliot Evans, Oliver Evans and Arthur Evans; and ten (10) nieces and nephews: Kent Evans, Joyce (Evans) Turner (husband, Gary), Cindy Evans, Janet Evans, David Evans (wife, Jill), Mark Evans (wife, Suzie), Sam Weaver (wife, Sonya), Lissa Cabanas, Gary Tarvin, and Lee Anne Frederick (husband, Mike).

Patricia was a loving, devoted wife and mother, as well as being a remarkably talented, intelligent, compassionate, loving, and socially involved woman. She lived an interesting, active life, and had many talents. Those talents allowed her to manage the responsibilities of Mom, Wife, Grandmother, and Great-grandmother like the amazing person she was.

Along with a kind and generous heart, Patricia had a lot of personal strength (she would call it stubbornness) that allowed her to survive many setbacks, including breast cancer and colon cancer. In spite of everything, Mom was always ready to lend a helping hand to people that needed her help; to listen to a person that just needed to talk about an issue; and always ready to provide hugs, if requested.

For many years Patricia struggled with dementia. She wanted to live a long healthy, happy life; but she was aware that her Grandfather (William P. Smith), Father (Dewayne Walter Smith) and Aunt (Jeane Hill) suffered with the same disease and she did everything she could to prevent and slow the progress of the dementia. She bravely faced the challenges of the disease (e.g., loss of her precious memories, confusion, etc.) and was determined to live her life as the best person she could possibly be. Patricia’s battle was truly remarkable because near the end of her life, most days she was happy, she had many new friends at the Memory Care Unit and she still loved to be around people. Now, Patricia can rest, knowing that she will forever remain in the hearts and minds of the friends and family that love her.

A Celebration of Patricia’s Life will be held Friday, May 19, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. in the Cuba Christian Church, Cuba, Illinois. Patricia was a lifelong member of the Cuba Christian Church. She called it her home church. After Patricia’s Celebration of Life Service, Patricia M. Evans and her husband of 62 years, Marion M.
