Gerald M. "Pink" Petty

Gerald (Pink) Petty, 84, of Canton, passed away at 8:26 PM on Thursday, May 4, 2023, at Graham Hospital. He was born on August 22, 1938, a son of Donald Petty and Orval and Eva (Starcevich) Jennings. He married Nancy Spenny on September 24, 1965, in Galesburg. She survives.


Also surviving Gerald is his children, Steve (Amber) Petty and Tom (Amanda) Petty, both of Canton; eight grandchildren, Emilee, Ellyn, Drew Petty, Zachary (Ali) Kerans, Drake, Nathen, Garhett and Randel Petty; and two great- grandchildren, Natalee and Blayke Kerans. A brother in law, Bill Spenny, Nephew Mike Spenny, and Niece Lyn Donaho.

He was preceded in death by all of his parents.


Gerald was a Veteran of the United States Army. Afterwards, he worked as a Coal Miner for Buckhart Mines 20 years before retiring in 1987. He then worked for Peoria Disposal Company for 10 years and retired; and he also spent 14 years working as a Courier for Mid America National Bank. Gerald was a member of the Canton Booster Club and was named Booster of the year. He a member of 12th District United Mine Workers Association. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and he made sure to be at every sporting event for his grandchildren.


Per Gerald’s wishes, there will be no services. Cremation rites will be accorded through Sedgwick Funeral Homes and Crematory. Memorials may be made to the Canton Booster Club or the Lukas R.
