Leona Darlene Siepel

Leona Darlene Siepel, 97, of Farmington went home to be with the Lord on August 29, 2021 at the Farmington Country Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Farmington, IL.


Leona was born on January 31, 1924 to Glen and Irene (Fisher) Swearingen. She married William Siepel on February 28, 1942 at Kahoka, Mo. William passed away on August 22, 1999.

She was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters and five brothers. She was preceded in death by one daughter Vicki Darlene Horton (Clayton) of Tremont, IL.

Surviving are: Three Sons: William (Arlene) Siepel of Peoria; Wiley (Diana) Siepel of Franklin, TN and Steven (Sheila) of Hanna City, six grandchildren, Melissa Hoffmire, Melinda Combs, Michael Horton, Greg Siepel, Timothy Siepel and Anna Siepel. Six Great-Grandchildren, Will Hoffmire, Zach Hoffmire, Carson Combs, Ethan Combs, Reid Horton and Elie Horton, two sisters, Beverly (Melvin) Thompson of Pekin and Sandra Simmons of Peoria, one brother Allen Swearingen of Hanna City.

Leona owned and operated a dry-cleaning business from her home. She worked for George’s Daily Store in Hanna City. Leona was actively involved with the Hanna City P.T.C.C. and the Hanna City Women’s Auxiliary for the Hanna City Fire Department. Leona was the custodian at the Hanna City Presbyterian Church for over 50 years. She enjoyed spending time with her family. She enjoyed cooking, fishing and bowling.

Leona was a member of the Hanna City Presbyterian Church. She was a member of the Dorcas Class and the Tuesday Morning Cottage Prayer Group. She was involved with the Missionary Society and loved being involved with church activities.
Leona’s family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Farmington Country Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Farmington for the outstanding care Leona received.

Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am Friday, September 3rd, 2021 at the Hanna City Presbyterian Church at 203 N. Main Street Hanna City, IL. The Rev. David Keithley and Rev. Kerry Frantz will be officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30 – 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 3rd, 2021 at the Church. Burial will be at the Smithville Cemetery.
