James E. Lloyd


Canton - James E. Lloyd, 85, of Canton passed away on September 18, 2021 in Canton. He was born on July 19, 1936 in Elizabeth, IL, to Harvey and Merle (Trousdale) Lloyd.

Preceding him in death were his parents and four sisters; Arliss Lloyd, Phyllis Rohde, Lavonne Trapp and Marilyn Zigler. He is survived by nieces and nephews, including a special nephew, Eric Zigler of Rockford, IL.
James attended Lincoln College in Lincoln, IL before transferring to the University of Illinois where he received a bachelor of science degree majoring in agriculture. After graduation from the University of Illinois, he served two years I the U.S. Army as a radar instructor stationed at Fort Sill, OK. Following his discharge from the Army, James began law school at the University of Illinois College of Law where he graduated in February, 1965 with Doctor of Jurisprudence Degree. He passed his bar examination in March, 1961 and was licensed to practice law in May, 1965. After becoming a licensed attorney, he spent his first two months with the law firm of Bull, Ludens, and Potter in Morrison, IL. At the age of 31, James came to Canton and joined the law firm of Claudon and Elson in May of 1965. He continued to practice law I Canton for more than 50 years, practicing before numerous Circuit Corts, Appellate Courts, and the Supreme Court of the State of Illinois, as well as the United States Tax Court. He was a long-time member of the Fulton County Bar Association.
James had a love for Porsches and also for his two little dogs that both brought him so much joy through the years.
Cremation rites have been accorded through Oaks-Hines Funeral Home and Crematory in Canton. There will be no services. A private burial of his ashes will be held at a later date. To leave online condolences please visit www.oakhinesfuneralhome.com.
