Gordon W. Linn


Canton - Gordon W. Linn, 94, of Canton, passed away, Wednesday, September 15, 2021, at Lutheran Hillside Village in Peoria. He was born on December 26, 1926, in Canton, to Albert and Coral (Cadwalader) Linn. They preceded him in death along with two brothers, LeRoy and Eldon Linn and two sisters, Mildred Twomey and Thelma Barron. He is survived by Patricia, his wife of 70 years, as well as their three children: Gregory (Clayton Press) Linn of Ewing, New Jersey; Jeffery (Luanne) Linn of The Villages, Florida, and Dr. Martha Linn of Barrington, Illinois. Other survivors include his sister, Alma Lee (the late John) Wertman of Canton; four grandchildren, Jeffery (Morgan) Linn, Stephen (Sara) Linn, Erin Heylin and Shannon Heylin, and two great grandchildren, Stella Linn and Charlotte Linn. Gordon was President of Canton's Community Bank & Trust from its establishment in 1965 until his retirement in 1990. He was also a former President of the Canton Chamber of Commerce. As a business leader, he helped to organize the development of the Fulton Square Shopping Center and was voted Citizen of the Year. In another community project, he was involved with the Spoon River College Foundation, during construction of the original campus. Gordon was an Elder of the First Presbyterian Church in Canton. He was also active in several local organizations: American Legion, Canton Country Club, Lion's Club, and the YMCA (board member). A veteran of the United States Navy, Gordon served his country in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He attended Bradley University, where he received his Bachelor's degree. He was an avid supporter of Bradley's basketball team and was a member of the Braves Club. A graveside service will be held at Greenwood Cemetery in Canton on Wednesday, September 22, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church in Canton.
