Afton B. Watkins

Canton – Afton B. Watkins, 100, of Canton, passed away at 12:44 PM on Wednesday, July 27, 2016 at Red Oaks Estates in Canton. He was born on August 22, 1915 in Farmington, IL to Cecil and Violet Christine (Addis) Watkins. He married Norma May Edwards on December 26, 1939 in St. Louis, MO. She preceded him in death on April 9, 2007.
Also preceding him in death were his parents, daughter, Bonnie Ann Watkins in 1949, and two brothers, Leo and Bernard Watkins.
Surviving is daughter, Kay (Larry) Wenger of London Mills; four grandsons, Scott Wenger of Pekin, Rodney (Karen) Wenger of Rural Gilson, Douglas (Debra) Wenger of Fairview, and Christopher (Sara) Wenger of Canton; and eight grandchildren, Kirsten, Samantha, Jesse, Addie, Wesley, Cody, Chase, and Ava.
Afton worked as a farm hand, wheat harvester, coal miner, farmer, and at Caterpillar. His hobbies included wood carving, wood working, flowers, yard work, and camping. Afton also built a log cabin in Missouri.
Afton served in the Army Air Corps.
Kay would like to say, his long journey is over and I shall miss him as much as I love and miss my mom. The family would also like to thank Red Oak Estates for their love and care these past few years.
Services will be at 11 AM on Monday, August 1, 2016 at Sedgwick Funeral Homes & Crematory in Canton, where a visitation will be held from 10-11 AM. Pastor Rebecca Gearhart will officiate.
