Canton-Sheldon Wayne Orwig, 85, of Canton, passed away on Wednesday, June 29, 2016, at 10:45 p.m. at the Clayberg Nursing Home in Cuba.
Sheldon was born, in Fulton County, Illinois to Frank B. and Mary C. (Myers) Orwig. He graduated from Canton High School in 1948. He married his high school sweetheart, Margaret Ann Williams, on August 26, 1950, in Canton. Margaret preceded him in death August 30, 1995. He later married Roberta Graham on November 10, 1996. She survives.
Surviving are one son, Thomas (Maria) Orwig of Canton, one daughter, Deborah Emery of Canton; four grandchildren, Michael (Amanda) Emery of Canton, Nicholas (Angela) Orwig, of Canton, Kelly Emery Albin of Bloomington and Brette Orwig of Canton; six great grandchildren, Aden Emery, Emma Orwig, Jace Emery, Easton Orwig, Stella Albin and Charlie Albin. Sheldon is also survived by two brothers, Robert (Melba) Orwig and Gary (Sara) Orwig. He is also survived by stepson, Steven (Cheri) Graham; stepson Mark (Candie) Graham and stepdaughter Ketra (Dennis) Mayer; along with many step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren.
Orwig Auto Body was established and jointly owned by Sheldon and Margaret in 1959. Sheldon was a member of Locust Lane Church. He loved the outdoors, especially fishing, mushrooming, boating, camping and farming. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and enjoyed playing cards.
Sheldon was preceded in death by daughter, Peggy Ann Orwig, brother Gordon Orwig, son-in-law Robert Emery, step-daughter Carol Franklin and step-son Craig Graham.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, July 5, 2016, at 3 p.m., at the Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton with a visitation 2 hours prior. Cremation rites have been accorded.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Clayberg Nursing Home or the Graham Hospice.
