George Retford Pilkington

Canton-  George Retford Pilkington, 85, of Canton and formerly of Cuba passed away at 10:15 AM Monday July 11, 2016 at Graham Hospital in Canton.

He was born July 28, 1930 at Cuba the son of George Losco and Pearl (Smith) Pilkington. He married Charlene Hoffman on September 2, 1951 at Lewistown. She died January 29, 2004. He later married Judy (Shields) Hensley and she survives. Also surviving are two sons, George A. (Amber) Pilkington of Creve Coeur, David B. (Patricia) Pilkington of Cuba, one daughter, Mary Jo (Albert) Shank of Cuba, one step son, Andy (Kari) Hensley of Canton, two step daughters, Tammy McMillon of Harlan County, KY; and Bonnie (Jimmy) Weirauch of Hanna City, a sister-in-law, Louise Pilkington of Cuba, five grandchildren, two step grandchildren, and one great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, and three sisters.

George retired from Caterpillar East Peoria plant in 1983. He was a Korean War Veteran serving in the US Army 3rd Division 15th Infantry Regiment. He attended Cuba Nazarene Church and later attended Shields Chapel United Methodist Church. Other memberships include Korean War Veterans Association Chapter 243 Peoria, Korea War Veterans Museum and Library, Tuscola, AL; 15th Infantry Association, Cuba American Legion Post 533, Out Post Harry Survivors Association, Illinois State Bee Keepers Association, several gas engine clubs, and a life member of VFW Post 3883 in Bartonville.

Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Friday at Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Cuba with Pastor’s Carl Denham and Dean Austin officiating. Burial will be in Cuba Cemetery with military services conducted by the Cuba American Legion Russell Smith Post 533 and Bartonville VFW Post 3883. Visitation will be held from 5-7 PM Thursday at the memorial home. Memorial contributions may be made to Cuba Church of the Nazarene, Shields Chapel United Methodist Church or Grant Keime Memorial Trust.
