Nellie Kuhn


Canton - Josephine Nellie Kuhn, 95, of Canton, transitioned peacefully into her eternal reward on Sunday evening July 17, 2016, at Spring Meadows assisted living center in Naperville, IL.
Nellie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a phenomenal woman with a loving heart and infectious laugh and kept her sense of humor even until her last days. She will be missed by all.
She was born June 9, 1921 in, Derry, LA, and was the daughter of Constance Gallien and Alice Gallien, and the oldest daughter of six children.
She married her husband of 58 years, Orval Jesse Kuhn Sr. on June 15, 1943, in Denver, CO.  They eventually moved to Canton where Orval became the Chief Operator of the water filtration plant for 34 years. Nellie worked many years at Tempo Department store in Canton and they were both Cub fans.
He preceded her in death on July 30, 2001. One daughter, Nelda Jane Kuhn, also preceded her in death on February 21, 1985. She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Richard “Hasey” Gallien, John Kelly Gallien, and Joseph Gallien; and one sister, Clotile Williams.
They were members of the First Baptist Church in Canton and both enjoyed volunteering in the Food Pantry program at FBC.
She is dearly loved by her surviving five children, Robert (Marlene) Kuhn of Muskegon, MI, Lydia (John) Soldwedel of Naperville, William (Shi Lan) Kuhn of Peoria, Marcus (Tammi) Kuhn of Chatham, and “Butch” Orval Jesse (Pam) Kuhn Jr. of Warrenville; and one sister, Motile Clark of Chico, CA; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 23, 2016, at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton, with Rev. Monroe Bailey officiating.  Visitation will be held Friday evening from 5-7 p.m.  Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Canton.
Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church Food Pantry.
