Robert Schenck

Canton – Robert “Bob” Schenck, 91, of Houston, TX, formerly of Canton, IL passed away February 14, 2015.
He was born August 25, 1923 in Banner Township, IL to Gus & Rosa Schenck.
His wife of 63 years, Irene, died in 2012.  He is survived by his daughter, Angela Cheaney & husband, Bob; grandchildren, Zach Cheaney & Haley Chilek; as well as extended family in the Canton/Peoria area.
After graduation from Canton High School he lived and worked in the area.  He joined the Army Air Corp at the age of 19, serving as a bombardier flying in a B-24 Liberator.  Stationed in Northern Italy, he flew over Italy, Austria, Germany, Czechoslovakia, and Romania.  He received a Distinguished Flying Cross for destruction of an oil refinery and completed 35 missions earning 4 medals.
He left Peoria in the mid 1950’s to pursue a career with the Kroger Company.  In 1968 he relocated to San Antonio with the Handy Andy food stores.  He retired at the age of 62 and moved with his wife to Houston to be near his daughter and grandchildren.
Private family services will be held at a later date.
Murphy-Sedgwick Memorial Home, Canton is in charge of arrangements.
