Linda Shawver

Lewistown  -  Linda A. Shawver, 67 of Lewistown passed away at 7:13 AM Saturday March 14, 2015 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria after a brief illness.

She was born July 31, 1947 at Canton, the daughter of Robert and Mildred (Bump) Shawver. She never married. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Steven Shawver. Surviving are numerous cousins including Jeff Braden of Lewistown, close friends Virgil and Ethel Brewer and family, lifelong friend Rhonda Shumaker, and her beloved poodles Starsky and Buster.
Linda worked in several Christian Schools as a second grade teacher in Louisiana, Jacksonville, FL; and Roxboro, NC; where she taught last. She retired and moved back home to care for her aging parents. She also faithfully volunteered at the Lunch with Friends Lewistown site located at the Lewistown Presbyterian Church.

She was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Havana and also attended First Baptist Church in Lewistown. Her service and work with the children’s transportation ministry was appreciated and she will be greatly missed by all of her church families. Linda was a member of the Lewistown American Legion Bishop Post 1 Ladies Auxiliary where she volunteered serving food on weekly bingo nights.

Linda enjoyed spending time with her dogs and had fond memories of her horses. She looked forward each year to attending the Fulton County Fair, helping out with the Lewistown Alumni Association, and she was an avid Duke University basketball fan. Linda was fond of Southern Gospel Music and enjoyed attending concerts, especially those featuring Gaither Homecoming artists. A very special project of Linda’s was helping to organize singspirations at the historic Providence Church which she attended as a young girl.  It was Linda’s desire that everyone know the Lord as she did and accept Him as their Savior so they could spend eternity in Heaven.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Monday at the Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Lewistown with Pastor’s Dan French and Eric Sawyer officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery at Lewistown. Visitation will be held Sunday from 5-7 PM at the memorial home.
