Merle F. Tarvin, 84, of Havana, passed away at his home at 9:14 p.m., on Saturday, June 22, 2024. He was born September 22, 1939, in Fulton County, Illinois, to Louie and Mabel (Rakestraw) Tarvin. He married Barbara Lannery on October 14, 1961, in Ipava, Illinois.
Mr. Tarvin is survived by his wife: Barbara, of Havana; two daughters: Jody (Craig) Goodrich and Kristi (Bill) Smith, both of Havana; six grandchildren: Christopher (Casey) McCarthy, Andrew (Amanda) Hines, Conner Smith, Ashley (Matt Wise) Goodrich, Adam (Courtney Showalter) Goodrich, and Arica Goodrich; as well as sixteen great-grandchildren: Landon, Annabella, Jayden, Jullian, Jax, Kynlee, Hadley, Jensen, Ryleigh, Brooklynn, Kalani, Brooklyn, Brianna, Brielle, Brent, and Karter. Also surviving is one sister: Ann (Bill) Meschnark, of Trivoli, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings: Bill Tarvin, Mildred Ward, and Sharon Tarvin.
Mr. Tarvin enjoyed to fly and pilot his own airplanes. He worked in construction his whole life and enjoyed woodworking. He enjoyed bicycling, his dogs, family cookouts and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was very proud of the one room schoolhouse that he restored and made into his home.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, July 7, 2024 at 1:00 p.m., at the Hurley Funeral Home, in Havana, with visitation one hour prior to the services. Burial will follow the services at Presbyterian Cemetery, near Topeka.
