Leonard A. Freeman

Leonard A. Freeman, 76, of Havana, passed away at 5:13 p.m. on Thursday, June 6, 2024 at Mason District Hospital in Havana. He was born on December 17, 1947 in Batesville, Arkansas to William and Arnell (Newsome) Freeman.

Leonard is survived by his long-time girlfriend, Nadine Owens of Havana; daughter, Dawn (Jeremy) Showalter of Kilbourne; step-son, Mike (Lisa) Belanger of Kilbourne; grandchildren, Kelsey, Levi, and Jaclyn Mibbs, Jalee Anderson, Hannah Belanger, and Kourtney and Kylee Showalter; and great-grandchildren, Payton Smith and Karter Showalter. He is also survived by his siblings, Patricia (Aaron) Wilcoxen of Easton, Donna (Lee) DeBolt of Metamora, and Jim (Vivian) Freeman of Havana and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Sue Richardson.
Leonard joined the Army in 1967 and served for 9 years. He worked for Fornoff Fertilizer for 10 years, Walker Forge, and retired from Hinkles & McCoy in Decatur. He was a member of VFW Post #6408 in Havana and Local 51 IBEW in Springfield. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an amazing father and grandfather.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, June 10, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Kilbourne Cemetery in Kilbourne. Rev. Abraham Mogerman will officiate. Military detail will be provided by VFW Post #6408 and American Legion Post #138.
