Nicolette N, Hughes

Nicolette N, Hughes, 69, of Farmington, IL passed away at her home. She was born on October 16, 1956 in Farmington, IL and is the daughter of R. James and Elizabeth (Vier) Hurst  R. James and Elizabeth (Vier) Hurst.

She is survived by her mother Elizabeth, children Erika (Andrew) Smith of Forsyth, IL, Carson (Stefanie) Cornelius of Chesterfield, MO, her grandchildren, Sophie, Phoebe, Ethan, and Abigail, one brother, Neil (Diane) Hurst of Ft. Collins, CO. and their children Lauren, Jeffrey, and Collen Hurst. She was preceded in death by her father, and one daughter Adrienne J. Cornelius.

A lifelong learner and dedicated servant to others, Nicolette built a career rooted in compassion and purpose. She earned her undergraduate degree in Social Work before returning to school to complete not one, but two master's degrees — one in Nonprofit Leadership and one in Management — a testament to her drive and intellectual curiosity that never dimmed.

For many years, she served as a Director at the Metro St. Louis YWCA, where she poured her heart into causes she believed in deeply: advocating for those experiencing homelessness and championing the empowerment of women. Her work was not simply a career — it was a calling, and she answered it with unwavering dedication.

Beyond her professional life, she was a woman of warmth, joy, and many gifts. A talented pianist, she brought music into the lives of those around her with a grace that only comes from true passion. She found delight in the kitchen, sharing her love through the meals she prepared and the table she set for family and friends. On fall and winter Sundays, she could be found cheering on the game alongside her closest friends, football becoming its own beloved ritual.

But of all her joys, none compared to the time she spent with her grandchildren. In their company, she was most fully herself — present, playful, and full of love.

She leaves behind a legacy not only of professional achievement, but of a life lived generously, purposefully, and with great heart.

A celebration of her life will be held in the Farmington- area later this summer. Memorials may be sent to the Mooseheart Child City and School. Cremation rites have been entrusted by Anderson- Sedgwick Funeral Home, Farmington, IL. Online condolences may be made at www.sedgwickfuneralhomes.com.
