Etsu Jean Baldwin

Etsu Jean (Yoniayama) Baldwin, affectionately known as “Nana”, 85, of Canton, passed away on September 8, 2023.

She was born June 28, 1938, in Aomori-ken, Kamikita-gun, Japan, the daughter of Miyajiro and Min (Nagakubo) Yonaiyama. They preceded her in death. She married Phillip Baldwin in 1968 in Las Vegas, NV. Surviving are her three children John (Sonya) Baldwin of Lewistown, Kathy (Marc) Churchill of Lewistown, and Susan Baldwin of Canton; one brother Tatsuya Yoniayama of Japan; and her 7 grandchildren Tyson Brown, Darian Baldwin, Cloe Churchill, Gage Miller, Carmyn Baldwin, Jackson Churchill, and Drake Miller.


Jean worked as a hairstylist and business owner in Lewistown for many years. She had several talents and hobbies throughout her life including sewing, quilting, knitting, crocheting, gardening, canning, drawing, painting, stained glass, baking, and cooking for her family and friends. She loved watching sporting and band events, especially those her grandchildren and their friends participated in. She was an avid Lewistown volleyball fan and made personalized quilts for every senior player for many years.


Cremation rites will be accorded, and a visitation will be held from 10am-12pm on Saturday, September 16, 2023, at Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Lewistown. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in honor of Jean Baldwin to Lewistown Volleyball.
