Tim Haffner

Tim Haffner, passed away at 8:24 PM on Friday, July 28, 2023, at OSF. He was born in Canton, IL on February 11, 1950, to Charles and Betty (Green) Haffner. He was raised solely by his mother and older sister, Christine White. Both preceded him in death.

Tim is survived by his beloved wife Vickie and three children, Erin (Pat) McCarthy, Michael (Julie) Carter, and Brandi (Andrew) Ledbetter; and four grandchildren. Also surviving are his nieces, Michelle (Keith) Quigley and Nikki White; and his nephew Todd (Angela) White, whom he thought of as a son.

A self-taught construction manager, Tim was a sought-after master builder. His building career started with garages, leading to homes, graduating to hotels, and ending with the development of an entire island, including an airport and a runway. Evidence of Tim’s career are present in Illinois, Colorado, Missouri, Florida, Jamaica, and the islands of New Providence, Exuma, and Mayaguna Bahamas.

He loved to gather friends and family and cook for them, carefully guarding his secret recipes to keep you coming back for more. Pool parties and dinner parties were legendary. It didn’t matter who you were, you could count on three things; good food, good drink, and plenty of laughter. He catered an event to each individual guest’s personal taste.

Tim was truly “that” guy who would do anything for anybody and did. Stories of his generosity and kindness are sprinkled throughout his entire life. If you knew Tim, chances are he had done something nice for you. Everybody’s handyman, carpenter, auto repair man, or home remodeler, his talents were endless.

Tim’s life was best summed up by his friend, Dr. Thomas Burke, “Tim is the first person I would choose to be with me if I was in a foxhole and could choose one person from all humans on this earth.”

He will be missed by many.

Graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, August 4, 2023 at White Chapel Memory Gardens in Canton, IL. Rev. Kevin Van Tine will officiate. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Childrens Hospital. To leave an online condolence you may go to www.sedgwickfuneralhomes.com
