Lowell Edmond Worsdell

Lowell Edmond Worsdell, age 83 of Coral Springs, Florida, passed away on May 31, 2022 in Boca Raton, Florida. He was born on January 21, 1939 in Vermont, Illinois, the son of Loren and Wilma (Strode) Worsdell. He was raised working on his family’s farm with his parents, sister Karalinda and his cherished dog Snippy.

After graduating from VIT High School, Lowell joined the US Army where he served in the Finance Corps in Ft. Knox, Kentucky. While in the Army, he was responsible for managing payroll and Elvis Presley was among the enlisted men who he cut a paycheck.

After being honorably discharged from the Army, Lowell attended Western Illinois University in Macomb, Illinois. Seeking a sunnier climate, in 1959 Lowell spent $19 on a round trip ticket to Cuba, but ended up putting down roots in south Florida, which was his home for the next 60 plus years. There he established a career in marble and tile sales.

Lowell was a proud husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Judith Robbins, his children April Worsdell and Jeffrey Worsdell, his step-children Scott Robbins and Stephanie Antone and his nine grandchildren; Samantha, Katie, Matthew, Clyde, Jeffrey, Jr., Jonathan, George, Olive and Levi, and his sister Karalinda Robb.

He was a die-hard fan of the Chicago Cubs and was so excited when his Cubbies won the World Series in 2016. He had a lively sense of humor and was known to always crack a joke. He loved reading the newspaper, especially the finance section and always followed the ups and downs of Boeing and Honeywell stocks. He was enthusiastic about trains and collecting clowns, but especially enthusiastic about genealogy. In fact, Lowell was so excited about his family history that he recruited his daughter to research and write out the Worsdell family tree for a Girl Scout project. One of the most fascinating things Lowell learned was that he had relatives who fought for the Union Army in the Civil War. One of his most cherished possessions was a Civil War musket, a family heirloom that has been passed down from father to son. By far, Lowell’s proudest accomplishment was being grandfather to his nine grandchildren. He loved them with all his heart and they will always remember their “grampie”.

Services will be held at 11 am on Saturday, June 11, 2021 at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria, Illinois. Pastor Matthew Thiner will be officiating. Military rites will be provided by the Vermont American Legion. A visitation will take place 1 hour prior to the service. Memorials may be made to the St. Jude Children's Hospital.
