Nelson H. Esselman, 86, of Topeka passed away on Saturday, April 9, 2022 at Mason District Hospital in Havana. He was born on December 15, 1935 to Herman and Florence (Holste) Esselman.
Nels is survived by a sister, Margaret (Ron) Esselman Trimpe, with whom he made his home the past 12 years. Also surviving are nieces, Vicki (Joe) Esselman Carr and Tricia (Vince) Trimpe Stehlin and nephews, Troy (Gina) Trimpe and Trevor (Dina) Trimpe. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Melvin, nephew, Tracey Trimpe, and daughter, Michelle.
Nels was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, American Legion, VFW, Irrigated Growers, and Ducks Unlimited. He served in the U.S. Army and retired from Caterpillar after 20 years. He also farmed and it was his pleasure to assist friends.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 13, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. at Hurley Funeral Home in Havana, with a visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow the service at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Havana with Military Rites.
Memorial donations may be made in Nelson's name to the Havana Food Pantry, Mason District Hospital, St. Paul's Lutheran Church, or donor's choice. Online condolences can be left for his family at www.hurleyfh.com.
