Fairy "Ann" Avery

Fairy "Ann" Avery, 80, of Elmwood, passed away at 9:05 a.m., on Sunday, April 3, 2022, in Elmwood surrounded by her family. She was born on August 27, 1941, in Quincy, IL, to Robert and Fairy (Bostic) Johnston. She married Walter E. Avery, Jr., on August 28, 1993. He survives.

Also surviving are her three children, Larry (Angie) Shideman of Elmwood, Julie (David) Wagner of Elmwood, and Jackie (Tim) Harms of Elmwood; three step-children, Walter E. Avery, III, David Avery, and Amanda (Greg) Avery-Klein; one son-in-law, Bryan Coulter: two brothers, John Johnston and Steve Johnston; three sisters, Deb Miars, Mary Bell, and Cindy McIntyre; ten grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Ruby Coulter; one infant son, Keith Wyman; and one brother, Ronnie Johnston.
Ann and her daughter, Ruby, owned and operated The Lunchbox for several years. Ann was also a Crossing Guard for Elmwood School District #322 for 19 years. In honor of Ann's dedicated service, there is an honorary memorial sign at the corner of Ash and Magnolia.
Per her wishes, there will be no services. A private burial of ashes at Elmwood Township Cemetery and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to B.Y.E. Ambulance.
