Chillicothe-Mary B. Whelan, 88, formerly of Elmwood, passed away on Thursday, April 14, 2022 at Heritage Manor in Chillicothe.
She was born on April 21, 1933 in Farmington to Wardie and Mary (Hall) Emery.She married Donald Whelan on September 20, 1952 in Elmwood. He preceded her in death on February 2, 2021.
Surviving are her two daughters, Mary (John) Fullen of Chillicothe, and Sheralyn "Sherry" Whelan of Chillicothe; seven grandchildren; and thirteen great-grandchildren.
Also preceding her in death are five brothers, Robert, Donald, Herschel, Roy and Gerald Emery, three sisters, Hazel Emery, Patricia Pellens, Beverly Melton and one great grandson.
Mary Retired as a nurse's aid at Belwood Nursing Home in Peoria. She was a past member of the VFW Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary, Elmwood Historical Society and the Elmwood Senior Citizens Club. After moving to Chillicothe, she became active in the Pearce Community Center.
A funeral service will be held at 1 pm on Monday, April 18, 2022, at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Elmwood. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service from noon until 1pm at the funeral home.
Burial will be held at Elmwood Township Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Pearce Community Center in Chillicothe.
