Ronald L. Tarter

Ronald L. Tarter, 83, of Elmwood, passed away at 5:16 p.m., on Friday, August 13, 2021, at his home.

He was born August 20, 1937, to Archie and Margaret (Jenkins) Tarter. He married Martha Metz on April 29, 1978, at the Elmwood United Methodist Church. She survives.
He is also survived by two daughters, Emily (Troy) Roberts of Elmwood, and Molly (Cory) Herendeen of Carmel, IN; and five grandchildren, Rebekkah, Jacob, Anna, Colton, and Caden.
He is preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Harry, Gerald, and Paul Tarter; and one sister, Helen Saunders.
Ron was a 1968 IFYE to Finland. He then remained active in IFYE, serving on the National and International Boards. Ron was also a former Mason, Shriner, Kiwanis member, RY USA National President, Maple Lane Country Club board member, founding member of the Elmwood Strawberry Festival, elder of the Elmwood First Presbyterian Church, and served during the 1960's in the IL Air National Guard.
Ronald was a skilled carpenter who worked for B & B Builders for many years until he opened his own business, the Country Carpenter. He enjoyed traveling, being outdoors, and spending time with his family, especially watching his grandkids' activities.
Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m., on Saturday, August 21, 2021, at the First Presbyterian Church in Elmwood. A visitation will be prior to the service from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the church. A burial of ashes will then take place immediately after the service at Elmwood Township Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church in Elmwood in honor of Ronald Tarter.
