Violet L. Wickert

 Violet L. Wickert, 101, of Astoria, IL, passed away at 10:32 pm Sunday, August 1, 2021 at The Elms in Macomb, IL. She was born on January 13, 1920 in the Woodland Township, Fulton Co., IL, the daughter of George and Clara Mae (Stambaugh) Klinedinst. Violet married Ronal G. Wickert on April 16, 1939 in Rushville, IL. Ronald preceded her in death on June 21, 1994.

Also preceding her in death are her daughter, Glenna Mae Wickert, son, Roy Wickert, grandson, Eric Wickert, 4 sisters, Leona Ogden, Nelda Schnarr, Vernadene Buswell, Marjorie Scrogum, and 2 brothers, Leroy Klinedinst and Forrest Klinedinst.

Survivors include her 4 sons, Carroll (and Dona) Wickert of Handford, CA, W. Dean (and Carol) Wickert of Palm Coast, FL, Dennis (and Beverly) Wickert of Springfield, IL and Quentin (and Diane) Wickert of Cape Coral, FL, daughter-in-law, Marilyn Wickert of Plainsfield, IL, 11 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren, sister, Claribel Buswell of Ipava, IL and
sister-in-law, Ann Klinedinst of Canton, IL.

Violet graduated from Ipava High School, receiving the Commercial Award and was Valedictorian of her class. After high school, she worked in the requisition office at Camp Ellis in Ipava. She later worked at Mummert Seed Company as a seed sorter and for 17 years she was bookkeeper at the Astoria Locker plant.

She was a lifetime member of the Woodland Church of the Brethren, where she was an organist and pianist for 80 years, taught Sunday school, and served as treasurer and financial secretary for over 26 years.

Violet and her husband Ronal delivered meals to senior citizens in Astoria for several years. They also drove the Red Cross van that was available to take senior citizens to doctor appointments, etc. She was also a frequent blood donor for the Red Cross.

She was a former 4-H leader for the Woodland 49ers. She was also a former member of the Washington Sewing Circle, a Good Sam Club Chapter called the Tri-County Travelers and the Sunshine Club.

She was on the Astoria Library Board for several years and helped in getting a new building, the current library building, in Astoria.

Violet was an avid reader who loved books. She also loved to work on crossword puzzles.

Services will be held at 10 am on Saturday, August 7, 2021 at the Woodland Church of the Brethren in Astoria. Pastor Lisa Fike and Pastor Kevin Kessler will be officiating. A visitation will take place from 5 to 7 pm on Friday, August 6, 2021 at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria. Interment will be in the Woodland Cemetery in Astoria. Memorials may be made to the Woodland Church of the Brethren or the Astoria Rescue Squad.
