John Ellsworth


Canton – John Ellsworth, 91, passed away on Saturday, September 7, 2019 at his residence.

He was born on April 3, 1928, in Canton to Merle and Clara (Crockett) Ellsworth.  They preceded him in death.

He married Donita Ague on May 6, 1951 in Canton.  She survives.

Also surviving are four children, Jeff (Lori Ann) Ellsworth of Canton, Mark Ellsworth of Canton, Lori Appelberg-Jensen of Cuba, Jon Robert (Bobbi) Ellsworth of Cuba, nine grandchildren, six great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by five brothers, Bill, Maurice, Meredith “Mig”, Harold “Itsie”, and Robert “Bob” Ellsworth and five sisters, Janet Ball, Bessie Williams, Virginia Lock, Frances Ekstrand and Ellen Linquist.

John Graduated from Canton High School and was active in its sport programs.  He played baseball, football and basketball and played on the 1948 State playoff team.  He worked for International Harvester Company in Canton and retired in 1985.  He was an avid sport fan and coached his kids little league teams.  He enjoyed fishing and even won a biggest fish Contest.  He was a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan and later in life he attended all of his grandkids sporting events.  John and Donita attended the 1st Christian Church where he once served as an usher.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, September 11, 2019 at 11 am at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home and Crematory in Canton with a visitation one hour prior

Cremation rites have been accorded and the burial of the ashes will be held at White Chapel Memory Gardens following the Funeral.

Memorials may be made to his Hospice Compassus.
