Jimmie A. Keefauver Sr.


Fairview – Jimmie A. Keefauver Sr., 84, of Springfield, formerly of Fairview, passed away at 10:15 AM on Monday, September 16, 2019 at his residence. He was born on December 19, 1934 in Canton to Ora A. and Eva Margaret (Mahr) Keefauver. He married Harriett Conklin on January 1, 1958, she preceded him in death on July 26, 1992. He later married Tomye Parliament on March 25, 1993 in Maui, HI. She survives.

Also surviving are eight children, Cathy (Ron) Mofford of AZ, Cindy (Alan) Thompson of Canton, IL, Lisa (the late Rick) Bybee of Canton, IL, Jimmie (Sheri) Keefauver Jr. of Smithfield, Jeff (Diane) Furlow of Chapel Hill, NC, Stacey (Alice) Furlow of Springfield, Tricia Price of Springfield, and Kelly Furlow of Springfield; 16 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one sister, Esther Keefauver of Fairview; and one son-in-law, David Vandermeer of Fairview.

Jimmie was preceded in death by his parents; two children, Linda Vandermeer and Mark Furlow; three grandsons; one granddaughter; and one brother, Charles Keefauver.

Jimmie owned and operated an Upholstery Store in Fairview for 23 years, worked as the Fulton County Coroner from 1980-1988, and retired from Illinois State Police as a criminal field analyst. He was the former Mayor of Fairview. Jimmie was of the Baptist Faith. He was a past volunteer Fireman at the Fairview Fire Department, a member of the Fairview American Legion Post 644 and Chief of an Indian Tribe.

Jimmie served in the United States Army for 11 years during the Korean and Vietnam Wars.

Services will be held at 3 PM on Sunday, September 22, 2019 at Sedgwick Funeral Homes & Crematory in Canton, IL, where a visitation will be held from 1-3 PM. Pastor Clint Cook of Real Life Church in Springfield will officiate. Burial with military honors will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Fairview, IL.
