Nona Hallar


Canton- Nona Hallar, 95, of Canton passed away at 10:15 PM Tuesday November 27, 2018 at Sunset Manor in Canton.

She was born April 26, 1923 near Lewistown the daughter of Phillip and Laura (McDermit) Wells. She married Charles Stambaugh on April 26, 1940 at Lewistown. He died in April 1972.  She later married Ernest J. “Red” Hallar on February 14, 1985 at Yuma, AZ and he died January 7, 2013. She was also preceded in death by her parents, one son, Keith Stambaugh, three brothers, three sisters and two great grandchildren. Surviving are two sons, Donald Stambaugh of Cuba and Thomas (Mary Kay) Stambaugh of Canton, one brother, Frank Wells of Galesburg, three sisters Nora Harding of Cameron, Nina Hanson of Galesburg, and Verna Dinwiddie of Berwick, three grandchildren, Rod (Cheryl) Stambaugh of Canton, Teresa (Ken) Johnson of Canton and Nikki Stambaugh of Phoenix, AZ; and seven great grandchildren.

Nona worked for many years at Day & Palin IGA in Lewistown and Cuba. She was a jack of all trades. Nona was a former member of the Moose Lodge and Eagles Lodge both in Canton. She enjoyed quilting, gardening, and traveling.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday at the Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Lewistown with Reverend Larry Wright officiating. Burial will be in Baughman Cemetery, rural Smithfield.
