Shirley J. Gauwitz, 98, formerly of Peoria residing at Sunny Acres Nursing Home, Petersburg, IL, passed away on March 21, 2023, at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, IL.
She was born May 5, 1924, in Peoria to Joseph and Elizabeth (Kerker) Kirk.
Her husband, Richard L. Gauwitz, parents, along with one brother, Bernie Kirk, and one sister, Marvel Kumpf, preceded her in death.
Survivors include one daughter, Sheila “Ginger” Mattox (companion David) of Phoeniz, AZ; two sons, Daniel J. (Polly) Gauwitz of Greenview, IL, and Thomas P. (Teri) Gauwitz of Roanoke, IL; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Shirley was a homemaker and insurance adjuster.
There will be no visitation. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Hurley Funeral Home in Petersburg is assisting Shirley’s family with final arrangements.
Interment will be at Resurrection Mausoleum in Peoria, IL.
