Ruth A. Smith

Ruth A. Smith, 78, of Peoria, formerly of Elmwood, passed away on Monday, March 13, 2023, at Grand View Alzheimer’s Care Center in Peoria. She was born June 22, 1944, to Stanley and Emma (Yehl) Knapp. She married William G. Smith on June 29, 1974. He preceded her in death in 2014.

She is survived by three children, Greg Wear of Peoria Heights, Emma Wear of Williamsfield, and Elly (Brian) Fennell of Lafayette, IN; three step-children, Jerry (Valerie) Smith of Appleton City, MO, Patty (Shaun) Halpin of Big Bend, WI, and Michael Smith of Arizona; ten grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She is also preceded in death by two brothers, Fred Knapp and Renne Knapp.

Ruth was a former secretary at Auto Body Shop, Redeemer Lutheran Church, and Peoria School District #150.

A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m., on Saturday, March 25, 2023, at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Elmwood. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Cremation rites will be accorded following the service. Food and fellowship will also follow the service at the First Presbyterian Church, 201 East Evergreen St., Elmwood, IL.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Easter Seals and the American Alzheimer’s Association.
