After graduating from Bushnell High School in 1945, Dusty continued her education as an Army Nurse Corps cadet earning a diploma from Galesburg Cottage Hospital School of Nursing. She worked for many years as a nurse and was one of the first female administrators for Graham Hospital serving as department head of housekeeping.
During retirement she and her husband enjoyed spending time during the winter months vacationing in Florida and Texas and traveling to visit friends made during her husband’s time serving in World War II. Her favorite days were those surrounded by family - sharing meals, telling stories, and playing cards (especially pitch). She was a great, feisty card player guaranteed to have a fist full of aces and the one card needed to set her opponents. Dusty was particularly talented at porcelain china painting and gave many pieces of her works of art to loved ones. Dusty’s family especially her grandchildren were her greatest joy. Family, neighbors, and friends who knew her remember her as a strong, independent, and kind person with a great sense of humor. She will be greatly missed.
A graveside service at White Chapel Cemetery will be arranged by Sedgwick Funeral and Crematory of Canton. In lieu of cards and flowers, donations may be made in Dusty’s memory to the Linda Myers Brown Love of Nursing Scholarship at the Graham Hospital School of Nursing.
