Shawn Charles Swanson, 54, was born on September 15, 1966 in Peoria, Illinois. He died from COVID-19 on Saturday, December 5, 2020 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center.
Shawn attended Farmington High School, where he was a member of the undefeated football team of 1984. Shawn was a member of the Illinois Angus Assoc. and the American Angus Assoc. He showed Angus cattle during his teenage years, showing in Denver, Colorado North American and in Reno, Nevada.
Shawn attended the University of Illinois, where he graduated from the College of Engineering in 1989. He immediately went to work at Caterpillar, where he worked for 27 years. He married Geeta Jain on December 18, 1992. She survives.
Also surviving are his parents, Fred and Karen Swanson of Trivoli; his sister, Sherri Swanson of West Peoria; his brother and sister-in-law, Mike and Sandy Acharya of Florence, Missouri; three nephews, Dezmend Swanson of Peoria, Roman and Aaron Acharya of Florence, Missouri; and a niece, Emily Jain of East Peoria. Preceding him in death were his paternal grandparents, Leonard and Irene Swanson and his maternal grandparents, Don and Olive McKeever.
In later years, Shawn enjoyed golf, bowling, rooting for his favorite sports teams, and was a history buff. He was a devoted husband and son and was a genuine, caring person. Gone too soon!
